August Newsletter

Policies

Spirit Gymsports has the following re-enrolment policy for all classes:

Our class sizes provide an excellent opportunity for children to learn gymnastics safely and constructively. They do however tend to fill up very quickly making it difficult to accommodate late enrolments.

To ensure your place in the class each term please send in your enrolment form and deposit before the school holidays begin. On the first day of the school holidays new enrolments are accepted to fill any spots from the waiting list. Re-enrolments forms are distributed with newsletters and through the class the last two weeks of each term.

Events

There are a huge number of National and State events coming up in the next few months. Please remember to take your club membership card along to events to gain free entry. Here a just a few Spirit gymnasts are involved over the next few months. We would very much like to see everyone coming along in support:

Results

Spirit has had immense success Nationally and Internationally over the last couple of months. Sarah Salerno and Chris Behan won a silver medal at the Suzuki World Cup. Sarah and Chris competed in the mixed pair division at this very prestigious International event and came back with a fantastic result. Well done!

Emily Little (WAIS and Spirit) did an amazing job at the recent Australian Championships in Melbourne and won the title of Junior International Gymnasts 2007. Emily is Spirit’s first ever Women’s artistic champion and we are so very proud of her. Emily also won individual apparatus medals on Beam (silver) Floor (silver) and vault (bronze).

Op Spec 1: Congratulations to all of the gymnasts who participated in the recent Op spec event. Lots of awards were presented to Spirit Gymnasts and it was a great deal of fun as always.

Our volunteers

We have a great number of people within our Club who give their time as volunteers to keep the programs and activities running efficiently. We would like to take this opportunity to Thank all out volunteers who help at events or on a day to day basis we could not run Spirit with out you.

Some of our volunteers deserve a special thank you and recognition for the continual efforts and support:

Lisa Farrell: Lisa is one of our long standing mums Zac & Georgie). Lisa has been working in our club Subiaco reception and club administrator for at least 2 years now. Lisa also drives down to Leeming a few sessions a term to take fees and registrations. Thanks to Lisa Spirit has someone in reception on most recreational days allowing Debbs and Caz to coach. She will not be pleased to see her name in lights but Lisa is an immense help to Debbs, Caz and Spirit and we could not have kept up with all the paperwork and general day to day admin without her. Thanks also goes to husband Anthony for installing our safe!

Debbie Bewley: Debbie is one of our RG mum’s who volunteered to help out with administration and fee collection for the Rhythmic program. Debbie has also ensured we have venues for training and good lines of communication between parents, coaches and gymnasts in the RG program. Thanks Debbie, you are a diamond.

Rosemary Harltey: Rose is our special needs coach but has also been our promotions and marketing lady for schools. Rose is on the Special Olympic committee and will be taking a squad of gymnasts away at the end of the year to Canberra for Special O Nationals. Rose has given us support and help over many years and we are sorry the public thanks has taken so long coming.

Mike Simpson: trampoline would not run without the immense help and muscle of Mike Simpson. Mike has pretty much single handedly moved countless trampolines and flyers from all over Perth to keep up with our programs. He is also very talented at modifying equipment to ensure coaches can setup and pack away the equipment more easily. Mike also sets up the trampolines twice a week at Subiaco for Jenn , Phil & Huia. Your time and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike.

Chelsea Prout & Family: Chelsea and her dad have been a great help in moving and transporting RG equipment and matting and building locked boxes for us. Thanks for all your help and the locked box looks great!

The Elkington Family: Chris, Rick and Samantha Elkington have helped out in many areas of Spirit activities over the years. Rick and Chris recently ran the MAG quiz night and can be seen at most aerobics events doing the music and announcing. Rick along with Craig Carroll were team managers for the Cheer and aerobcsi squad that traveled to last years nationals and will be doing it again for the Spirit Down Under Championships in July. Rick and Chris are also part of our adult gym program. Now there is dedication for you!

Special Note: Craig Carroll and Elisa Fear also deserve a note of thanks for volunteering their time in supervising and managing some of our traveling teams. Their patience and braveness is recognized here for being willing to take on 20 cheerleaders and 19 aerobics athletes in a trip to the Gold Coast!

Apologies if we have missed you off the list. We do really appreciate your input and still need you!
