Communication with parents

We understand and appreciate that parents may need to speak to their child’s coach from time to time on a specific issue or just to see how things are going. We have asked all our coaches to allocate a specific time that is convenient for them to be free for consultation with parents, this time should be communicated by the group coaches over the next term and /or published also in the next club newsletter.

As a general club policy Spirit will not publish or provide individual coach’s contact numbers as we respect their privacy and coaches need down time too. The club contact number is 93874127 please use this as your main telephone number, if noone is available the answer machine will be switched on and messages are conveyed to coaches asap. Alternatively email the club at spiritgymsports@hotmail.com.

We would appreciate it if everyone could avoid wherever possible interrupting classes to talk to the coach; calling mobiles or home numbers of coaches / owners early in the morning, after 8pm and weekends. Our staff work very hard and are a dedicated team but they do have personal lives, families and many also have full time jobs outside the world of gymnastics. Please respect their privacy; we gratefully appreciate your help in this matter.

Our GymsportsUp to date news on all disciplines of gymnastics that Spirit offers.

Women’s gym – State Championships has been a great success and well done to all involved; since States was the final event for the year for many of our competitive groups we will be moving into our skill development stage of training resulting in some gymnasts moving groups and levels. This is a gradual transition over term 4 and the school holidays. If a group change applies to your child, your coach will inform you and explain what will happen.

Men’s gym – another great State Champs so well done to Sarah and all the MAG gymnasts and coaches. The men’s competition season is not over yet as some gymnasts will be travelling to Canberra in December to compete in National Clubs. In the meantime the boys will start skill progressions for new elements.

Rhythmic – congratulations to Chelsea and Daniela on their success at States, the girls did a great job with some very impressive performances.

Trampoline – our six athletes did a great job at States Championships. Well done to everyone, especially those of you that got their badges. We do have spaces in our trampoline classes if anyone would like to come along and give trampolining a go now is the time!

Sports acrobatics – congratulations to all acrobats on their performances this year. We especially wish Claudia, Nicole, Pia, Emily and Kate good luck at the 2007 National Championships.

Recreation / Kindy Gym – gymnastics has become very popular in the last term and a number of our classes have waiting lists. We would urge all current members to re-enrol before term 3 finishes to ensure they keep their preferred day.

Cheerleading – Dv8 have had some time off since so many of our squad had exams and other commitments. We will be starting the Cheer squad up in the near future so watch this space.

Sport aerobics – the results from Trudi’s squad just keep getting better and better. Well done to everyone that participated in the Sports aerobic State Championships there were some great performances and we cannot wait to see a repeat at Nationals at the beginning of October.

Special Needs

Well its the end of another term of both gymnastics and school. There has been a few things that have been happening over the term

Op Spec challenge Number 2 – Congratulations to Shannon Pascoe, Emily Wells , Carter Spencer and Caroline O’Halloran who competed at Op Spec Challenge in August. You should be very proud of yourselves for a great effort.

ACT Invitationals in November 2007 – On 8th November 2007 a few of our gymnasts will be going to ACT in November. Emily Wells, Caroline OHalloran, Stephanie Pearson and Blake Stranksey. They will be competing under Special Olympics Western Australia.

Skills Invitation Morning – On 14th October we will be holding a skills invitation morning here at Subiaco PCYC . A express of interest has been put out to other clubs who have special needs gymnasts . The Cost is $10.00 per gymnast. We do understand that it is the last Sunday of the school holidays but it is the only time that we can hold it. This will also give the gymnasts going to ACT in November a chance to be judged on their routines. If you would like to attend please ring me either on H ..93079593 M. 0413086527

Term Fees – Please don’t forget to pay term fees on time at the beginning of the term.

Dawn Balmer – Dawn, at the end of this week, will be flying out to Shanghai in China to be part of the Australian World Games team as a judge for gymnastics for Special Olympics Australia. We wish her all the best and have a safe trip and bring back many great memories of her trip to Shanghai . HAVE FUN.

If you have any queries on the above please come and speak to us either before or after class.

Happy gyming,
Rosemary, Dawn and Emma

Coach news

Trudi Nurse – Trudi Nurse recently returned from France after attending the FIG brevet coaching course for Sports aerobics. This is the highest level of coaching accreditation a coach can attain and Trudi got a fabulous 93% and came third top in the class. Well done Trudi.

Triplets – Andrew and Lena Bodger recently welcomed three very lovely triplet boys into their family. Sebastian, William and Joseph. Andrew helps coach the senior girls with Debbs and the boys have already had their first trip to the gym causing quite a stir at training. We welcome the boys into the world and wish Andrew and Lena all the best with their new family.

Welcome – we would like to welcome some new coaches that have joined our coaching team this term:

Tashi Hart – Tashi is helping Sarah with the competitive boys on Wednesday afternoons. Tashi is a Spirit athlete with the men’s high performance centre at Challenge and is a great role model for the Senior boys and a welcome addition to the boys program.

Polly & Megan – Polly and Megan have taken over the Melville recreational program on Thursdays. Both coaches are experienced and are doing a great job. More details about these coaches will follow as coach profiles in the near future.

Tristan – welcome Tristan brother of Rachel!. Tristan is assisting Sarah with the boys programs on Mondays and Fridays. Tristan was a gymnast back in the days when Spirit was Subiaco PCYC and has not come back to pass on his experience and knowledge to our juniors.
